The Nutty Professor

According to Wikipedia (source on all things true and accurate), a professor is a qualified expert who may perform one of the following:

• conduct lectures and seminars in their field of study (i.e., they "profess"), such as the basic fields of mathematics, science, humanities, social sciences, education, literature, music or the applied fields of engineering, design, medicine, law, or business;

• perform advanced research in their fields.

• provide pro bono community service, including consulting functions (such as advising government and nonprofit organizations);

• train young or new academics (graduate students).

Well I’ve got another definition to add to the list: A professor is also one who teaches Tax Crimes and Penalties at Georgetown University Law Center….like my husband!

Trav is teaching a course as an adjunct professor this semester, and his first class is tonight. I can’t wait to audit it! Send happy thoughts his way!

Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas boys and girls! I hope you all had a fabulous holiday season—I know I sure did!  For some reason, I still associate December with “Christmas break”, and though I’m no longer in college (tear) I’m fortunate to have enough vacation days that I can take quite a bit of time off for the holidays.
I spent seven days with my family in Tennessee, which included lots of relaxing, movies, baking, and time with Ava, my adorable neice.
Pretty adorable!

Ava and I are just a like...we both like to eat batter, wear crowns, and tutus.

I taught her how to jump on the bed...oops!

SNOW!

My pretty Mom

Trav and I were scheduled to fly back to DC on the 26th, but the snowstorm in the north prevented us from getting out on time L. Luckily we did catch a red-eye out the following day, spent a day and a half in the city, and then got back on a plane and headed to Andrews, Texas, to visit Trav’s Gran and his immediate family. The Greaves spent Christmas in Texas this year so they could be with Amber—she  is a reporter at the CW Dallas and doesn’t exactly have a lot of vacation days at this point in her career.  I am so proud of how hard she is working. Check her out on-air here!
Anyway, I unfortunately didn’t get a lot of pictures of our trip to Andrews….except for this one:

Trav and I got the flu, and spent a good part of our trip sick! We had to go to the Andrews hospital on New Years Eve to get medicine, and didn’t get to spend New Years in Dallas as planned with Amber and the rest of the family. SIGH! So sad. The flu is the pits so get your flu shot!
Happy 2011!

Surprise Party

Trav and I hosted a surprise 30th birthday party for one of our friends from Tennessee, Justin, at the end of December. Actually, we just provided the space for the party via our condo’s party room….our friend’s wife took care of all the food, drinks, decorations, etc. I think he was really surprised!

Trav was in charge of "the decoy"

Justin and Sarah--love these southerners!

Jury Duty

I was recently summoned to the DC Court House for…dum dad a dum…. jury duty!  Since DC only has about half a million residents, it’s fairly common to be called. So I shouldn’t have been surprised that my name was called to go through the first round of selections. But I was surprised that I made it as one of the lucky 14 (12 jurors, 2 alternates)! So just a few highlights from what turned out to be a crazy experience:
·         Criminal case
·         4 days of trial
·         1 intoxicated juror which we had to remove from the case
·         4 days of deliberations
·         Hung jury
Welcome to the District of Columbia baby! It was actually a fascinating 8 days, and a nice change of pace from my regular schedule.

Winter Wedding

Travis and I attended a beautiful wedding in The Woodlands, Texas for our dear friends Jay Bryan Ingram and his lovely bride Kelly at the first of December. We really enjoyed being a part of their special day, and celebrating with their friends and family. The 70 degree weather in Texas was a nice change from DC as well!
